Once upon a Time...
So, this is where my story begins! OK, actually, the beginning, for me, was 20 years ago. But, chances are, if your reading this, you're probably wondering something about the Disney internship the Lord has blessed me with. So, here we go. I was just sitting in one of the buildings of North Carolina State University on Tuesday, November 4th, just reading the school newspaper before class started. As I was getting ready to toss the paper in the trash, I caught sight of the quarter page Disney ad: Disney was going to be on campus again, recruiting for full time jobs? Internship? Who knows. So, I thought, I should check it out, I've got nothing to lose. After getting shift coverage at work, I went to the Disney College Program Info Session Wednesday night. During the session, I kept thinking, this is too good to be true! A paid internship at the Happiest Place on Earth?! So, of course I filled out an application and scheduled a phone interview for a few days later, though I was still doubtful. Before and after my phone interview, all I could do was ask the Lord that His will be done. I mean, there's no way I would want to take a job if it's not what the Lord had for me. So I waited, continuously praying, for about 2 1/2 weeks to hear back from Disney. Finally, while at work, I heard back. The day before Thanksgiving, November 26th, I was invited to join other college students in the most exciting opportunity of a lifetime. I got in! After celebrating with my sister, and praising God profusely, I continued my shift in a daze.
It's been almost a month since that day, and I still can't believe it! I don't know whether to laugh or cry, though I did both when I found out. I don't know what the Lord has up ahead for me in this internship, but I will follow Him every step of the way!
Now, I'm sure you may have tons of questions about the program. I'm going to answer some of those questions here, and if I miss your question, feel free to ask!
- Q: Where will you be working?
- A: I will be stationed in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I will update ya when I know which park I'll be in. FYI: There is also a similar program at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.
- Q: How long will you be gone?
- A: I'll be there from January 26th to June 5th of 2009
- Q: What will you be doing while you're there?
- A: I'll be working in Quick Service Food and Beverage (QSRB), taking a class or two, and mingling with other program participants from all around the world. Shheeyaaa! Exciting!!
- A: I'll be staying in apartments provided by Disney
- Q: How will this help towards your major (mechanical engineering)?
- A: Not sure yet, though I know they have another professional internship available after this one, so perhaps this is where my major will come in
- Q: Won't you be a semester behind at school?
- A: Yes, but I'll be able to make that up once I get back, through summer classes and such.
- Q: Can you get anyone in the park(s) for free? Can you get free merchandise?
- A: Though I will receive a number of benefits as a cast member, I will be very limited with what I can get for others.
- Q: I'm in college or will be next year, is there a way I can participate in this internship too?
- A: You must be 18 or over, but yes. To apply, go to www.wdwcollegeprogram.com and follow the steps. Many other questions are answered here also.
I hope you stick with me through this journey of a lifetime. If not, thanks for checking out my blog. Who knows what surprises are in store along this journey!
